Why Matar Masala?
- Delicious
- Easy to make
- Low in calories
In India, “matar” means “green peas” and spices along-with gravy is called “masala”. Hence, the name “Matar Masala”.
Serve this Matar Masala with roti, plain paratha, tandoori roti. It also goes well with jeera rice or plain rice.
I like matar and so I opt for different recipes of matar like Matar Paneer sabji, Aloo Matar sabji or Aloo matar paratha.
To make matar masala, you should be using fresh peas. However, I hardly get a chance to purchase fresh green peas here in USA.
So I have opted for frozen green peas. In India, one can easily buy fresh green peas as its easily available in market.
Green peas are very good for health – low in calories and very high in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Also, they are high in fiber and proteins.

Key Points
1.Soak cashews in water for 4-5 hours and then use it while grinding gravy. This gives the sabji a more creamy texture.
2.Kasoori Methi adds a unique taste to the sabji and so I would recommend using it.
3.You may add bay leaf, cardamoms and cloves into the tadka and then add puree to it. Again that will uplift the taste of curry.
